Vera Bradley and Lilly Pulitzer

Oh Vera Bradley. I love some of your lovely things. One of my favorite things is your lovely rugs.
Darlings, please let me explain. The difference between a rug and a carpet is that a rug is moveable and a carpet is installed. Rugs may be placed, carpets are laid.

Vera Bradley rugs remind me of Lilly Pulitzer. Bright and cheerful motifs, happy designs, and a festive and vibrant feel to them. They seem to be able to evoke a feeling of innocence and youth, and add a festivity to a place.
Don't get me wrong. I really like Lilly a lot. She makes me smile. The extreme bright neon greens and pinks never fail to lift me from a sour mood. In Carmel by the Sea, California, one of my favorite shops to go into is the non official Lilly store. It is simply very good.

In Dallas, at my favorite mall, Northpark, of course, there is also a Lilly shop to be found. I have not been there, yet, but it is now on my to-do list when I go into that mall.

Working for now.

I have a darling idea for my background and sidebar images, and I will work on it through the week, but for now, I seem to have figured out what the problems are that were causing me problems. (I was not spacing something correctly)

Testing, Testing 1, 2, 3

This is my new blog. I am testing out a few things before I really get going on posting to have everything as I want it.

My latest update was to change the background. It took the better part of the day to make that happen. (I know, I know, simple for many of you, but I have been awake for more than 36 hours, so I am a tad punchy.)
The next thing I am going to do is change the side images, or sidebar images as they are called.

With the last update, I noticed that the posts are not filling in as they had been, so I will be working to rectify all of these issues in the next day or so.
If I cannot get all of that done, then I will revert the blog back to a generic format. Blah sighs if it happens, but my main goal is to write and post.

Testing

Testing spacing.

What is the difference between a party and an event?

I was just sending an RSVP to an evite that I received when I begin to ponder about the difference between a party and an event.

I have come to the conclusion that an event is hosted by a group or a company or similar, and a party is hosted by friends or family. Does anyone else have any commentary on this?

Jelly Belly Shop - Licorice Pastels – 16 oz

Licorice Pastels....mmm mmmm mmm

I am not a huge fan of Licorice jellybeans. To me, the heavy candy shell, sugar sub-shell and then licorice pod on the inside is a mess of taste.

A gal pal of mine got her husband the Jelly Belly yummy licorice pack for Christmas. I looked over it and was not interested. Then, on a whim, I grabbed a few of the licorice pastels. Oh heavens! That is wonderful. Lovely thin shell. Licorice. Very thin candy. Thank You, Jelly Belly for a wonderful treat that has made me very happy.

Sales in Dallas

There are some wonderful post-holiday sales in Dallas right now. Some are from my favorite places, too.

Here are some wonderful places to go in Dallas for shopping:

http://www.pierredeux.com/ They are having their annual winter sale and it is FABUL
OUS! Up to 70 percent off of things. I have a fave salesperson there, too! Email me privately for details.

http://www.paintyerpottery.com/ Oh my goodness! I have been here a few times with friends, we have made fun things, and you get to come back and bring something wonderful home with you after it is fired. Go, check them out!

http://www.jessicakagancushman.com/index.php I have loved her bracelets for a very long time. They make me smile. (The Nantucket, of COURSE!) A bit pricey to some, but they are handmade and I love the idea of handmade!

While out shopping, do stop at the wonderful Avila's Mexican restaurant. It is beyond really wonderful. http://www.yelp.com/biz/avilas-mexican-restaurant-dallas Here are some reviews for you to think about.

I am loathe to share this in one way, and yet, I am compelled to because I do not want this business to not have business and go away. http://www.pinkandthings.com/ Suzie Q imports is the owner of this store. They have been a mainstay of mine ever since Sam Moon became big box. The store can be a bit junky to see at
times, especially if they have just done a show. But they have some wonderful selections that make Mr. Moon look very pricey. Create an account with them if you need to know the prices online before you go in. They have loads more things that are not online, though. A piece of advice: If you see something there that you like, get it that very visit. Inventory changes very fast, and there is a good chance that it will not be there when you come back to see it again. Last time I was there, Suzie Q has rings that looked VERY similar to Chanel camellia rings.
They were darling. I grabbed some and have gotten
scads of complements off of them. They were cheap enough that I went and bought some to give out as gifts. To the right is the Chanel Ring as seen in Architectural Digest. It is a Glam Slam home run, for sure. Delicate, yet bold, spicy and saucy, it is really a perfect friend for the right hand.

But...alas, the price. Can be a bit of a stumper for a single gal like myself. Thankfully, the lovely stock at Suzie Q. is able to help me.
Here is a stock photo of ONE of the designs they carry.
In store, they have a larger selection.

Welcome to the Preppy Pirate

Preppy Pirate's Guide to Life!
I will be sharing here my views on life, my love of great products, as well as any other randomness that flows through my brain.

I live in the Dallas, Texas, USA part of the world. I am happily single, but if the right guy comes along, I will have no trouble changing my status.

The reason I call myself a Preppy Pirate is because I love all wondrous things Preppy, and I love all things renaissance historical reenactment. So, although I am not a pirate at the Renaissance festivals that I attend, I do have the attitude of taking life by the horns and living it to its' fullest.
(Also, during fabulous shopping trips, if you look at my credit card statements, I tend to pillage and plunder!)
